Ten Years of Saros!
We can hardly believe it, but it is 10 years this June since
Maya Middlemiss and Fiona Jack decided to create the UKs first
database-driven qualitative respondent recruitment service.
Both Saros and the qualitative research industry have come a
long way since that time, but our core values - of combining excellence in customer
services with traditional research screening skills, applied through the
latest technological approaches, still hold true. Ten years ago we may
have been scanning paper forms rather than networking and tweeting, but our
key principles still apply: Reach out to fresh, new potential
respondents, explain what taking part in research involves, and secure their
details and permission to approach them when the right project comes along -
then book them in to the right job at the right time. We're flattered
by the many imitators our approach has provoked, but Saros remains the
original pioneer of database recruitment in the UK.

We intend that the next 10 years will see us
continue to embrace new developments, grow steadily and
carefully without losing what makes us unique and valuable to
you, and go on making research participation
opportunties as universally available as possible.

So what's new
now? First of all, we welcome 2 new faces to our Project
Management team - Shelley Hodgson and Jimmy Stevens both learned
the ropes as Saros Research Bookers, and we're delighted that
they've now taken the next step in their career and are fully
trained to manage recruitment projects. You'll probably be speaking
to one of them soon. |

Secure file transfer
Sending us a list? Email isn't as secure
as it should be, and is potentially subject to both
accidental misdirection and malicious programming - which is
why we offer you the chance to transfer your data to us using
our in-house secure file transfer, which encrypts to SSL
standards.

This ensures your list is safe from the moment it leaves you, and
we will return it to you the same way. Data Protection is of
critical importance to Saros, and our 200,000+ members who have
entrusted us with their personal information - we would like to
treat your customer data with the same care and respect.

Remember, our secure conferencing facility is
also available to you for face to face briefings, depth
interviewing, discussion of documents, etc.

World Cup Mania

Apparently there is a significant sporting event
due shortly - some people in the Saros office seem quite
excited about this.
According to those in the know, the key World Cup dates to avoid
for fieldwork are:
England's group
matches are in June - 12th and 18th and 23rd (daytime).
Second round knock-out stages (one of which is likely to involve
England) will be 26th and 27th, Quarter
finals are 2nd and 3rd July, Semis 6th and 7th, with third place
play-off on the 10th.
The final is on 11th July -
maybe England won't be there, but a lot of respondents will
be, or glued to the telly at least... so please plan your
fieldwork schedules carefully during the whole
tournament!

Feed Back and WIN
Maintaining a top quality database is vital for us to be able to
do the best possible respondent recruitment for you. So please, please
tell us about the respondents we send your way! We make it as easy as
we can for you to do this, by including a few quick tick columns on the
profiles - of course any individual comments are extremely welcome, but if
time does not permit this, then just to know briefly whether they were a :-(
:-I or :-) is extremely useful. Your completion of this enables us to
identify which respondents you turned away as spares, to highlight star
respondents, to weed out anybody dubious, and it also helps with our IQCS
accreditation.

We do appreciate that this kind
of faff is the last thing on your mind when the fieldwork is
completed and clients are clamouring for your insights, and we
know as researchers you will understand the link between
incentives and motivation... so we are going to collate all the
feedback forms we receive all summer (through June, July and
August), and randomly pick one lucky winner to receive this
lovely champagne and chocolates at the start of September, to
say 'thank you' for taking the time to give us your
